Not to sound oddly specific, but Im super freaking done with slavic Russian masculine hegemony/massive cultural ignorance. I have never seen the same level of toxic masculinity in such commonality in a culture with very few exceptions. The propensity for ideological barbarism is worthless, as are slavic perceptions of masculinity. Im super done with it. The huge overvaluing of hyper-masculinity is irritating, and more importantly a massive contributor towards Russian/east european “attitudes” (see: police rape, government approval of families butchering gay family members, etc) towards queer people.
I have had half a dozen arguments with Russian or slavic men on the topic of masculinity, body image, and gender. The idea that some rando dude in east Europe filled with internalized homophobia, and toxic masculinity surrounded by an intensely antagonist culture towards queer people somehow knows more about sexuality/gender than me; someone who is literally in school studying those things, is obtuse.
