One day, and Jonathan knows that day is coming soon, he will pass away.

What will happen to all of his work? What about his crows? Will he be remembered at all? Well, one thing is for certain...his birds will never forget.

He is buried beside his old farmhouse, as per request. His crows are kept well fed by some friends, namely Harley and Edward. (and a certain OC named William) The crows understand death very well, and after Crane is buried, they mourn his death by bringing little trinkets to the grave. Sometimes they even bring pages torn out of books, something for him to read in the afterlife they think. The crows born after his death are taught to honor the grave as well.

He unmarked grave baffles those who come across the old farmhouse, now up for sale. No one dares to remove it, much less even touch it. They can tell there’s an ominous aura emanating from the gravestone, and the crow don’t help the vibe either. Rumors quickly pile up.

Children and teens tell spooky stories about the graves owner. One time a kid was even dared to dig it up, but he chickened out at the last second.

It’s a creeping feeling at first, the uncomfortable, paranoid feeling of being a puppet on a string, of being controlled. It’s hard to shake, the thought that he’s nothing but....words on a page...Oh. Oh no.

“Oh, you son of a bitch” Jonathan whispers, his eyes darting left, then right, then up at the ceiling looking for the thing that he was now convinced knew his every thought, that had controlled his life and delighted in his pain.

“You son of a bitch come out here and face me. Come out and face what you’ve done to me or I’ll-”

I’m kind of baffled with how popular this ship became. They barely ever interact in canon and it was a niche thing when it started, but it had great content. Still does and I suppose I’m in a way a provider. But you’re here for my ‘brutally’ honest opinion, right?

I get kinda peeved with how it’s assumed that Crane is the ‘dangerous one’ in the relationship, as if Ed isn’t capable of manipulating people and situations in his favor. Like there’s a need to almost dumb him down for a dynamic. They both can have extraordinarily goofy moments and terrifying ones, but there’s a sort of ‘balance’ you see played out more often. It’s not bad it’s just odd that it is the standard somehow. I don’t want less of it, I want more of other stuff, you know?

Also also I don’t think anyone forgets they’re awful bastards, but some people like to downplay how awful they are or draw inspirations from sources that really don’t dwell on their worst and that’s honestly not a problem. Eh, sometimes people just want to have fun, who am I to tell them how to. Me I like to keep it balanced...
