What's your least favorite thing to describe in a story?
Character descriptions, all the way
Like. How. How do you do it. How do you describe a character
I can’t just INFODUMP the entire thing!! I can’t just take paragraphs upon paragraphs to describe what each character looks like! But I also can’t wait too long before doing character descriptions or it’ll fuck people up!!!
And like! If you don’t do it at all it’s kinda weird to me!
Then there’s trying to subtly weave it into the narration but it always sounds so clunky to me. I hate using epithets and just skdjskdjksjdskj
Also like. I wanna be careful describing POC bc I wanna be sensitive and not accidentally use a racist or cliche description… and I have been educating myself the best I can but sometimes I get a little nervous as I don’t have any sensitivity readers!! So I get wary!
So yeah I can NEVER WIN with character descriptions which is why sometimes its just. Absent or is really clunky and kinda terrible…
And I have looked for advice on how to do it but so far I haven’t found anything…
so yeah if anyone has good and useful tips on how to describe characters that’d be great XD

Tbh the world building as its completely BROKEN
I have a lot of old ideas I like and kept because they’re nice and I still enjoy them in this new setting and it doesn’t make THAT much sense and I need to reconnect a lot of dots and *explodes*
I mean. There is a HUGE kinda plothole thing as Reluz and Aria live in The Kiniarth and NEITHER OF THEM ARE KINIARTHIAN they’re actually from... uh... Artharus... I believe was their ORIGINAL home country... so why tf they grew up in The Kiniarth is BEYOND ME.
And then there’s Northern Nuzumuth and Southern Nuzumuth... and I am certain I am spelling those fake countries wrong... and they too are just. Idk. They exist. There was a war that no longer makes sense with insensitive politics that make no sense and aksjaksjaksjaksj
Oh ya. And there are some other Hot Issues as the Izuktians are all kinda... the evil dragons... (they’re not actually evil lol) and even tho the entire country and idea behind them was based on the Romans, they are all... physically darker than the other characters in this story so its like :^} 12-year-old me why have you forsaken me like this...
Tho with that problem I’ll probably just group in certain colors and have any dragon be any hue of that color (aka lightskinned Izuktians DO EXIST and so do darkskinned Kiniarthians and Artharusians.... idk....)
Also the magic system is like... I got a lot of ideas for it... but those ideas aren’t yet really connected?? There’s old magics that no one can use and alchemy and gateways to others realms/planes of existence and necromancy and all SORTS of magic and NO ELEMENTAL MAGIC I AM NOT USING THAT TROPE THIS TIME I PROMISE and I just!! Haven’t connected everything together as of yet...
Basically I need to go back and fix the world building, along with that fix some of the world history so it makes more... logical sense and has more nuance... fix some of the... unfortunate implications here and there... and finish building and tying the magic system together.
So yeah. That’s it. XD a lot of fuckin’ work that I got no time to actually work on. Story of my life.
