       expression shifts ever so slightly in reaction to teeth against skin– brow comes to curve, eyes flicking to the side for a brief moment to the man curled into your side. the echo of a smile begins to curl lips before you press it down again– focus INTENSIFIED on the book before you and fingertips drum lightly against the worn pages.    –hum escapes as you turn the page, feigning interest when really, anakin can so easily grasp your attention and keep it for much longer than you care to admit. 

  ( how many long days have gone by, the two of you so wrapped up in one another that the world outside ceases to exist? ) 

 pause a few more seconds, lip pulled between lip and you can practically feel his need for attention– his restlessness.  but you simply adore the way he squirms too much to give in straight away.   

–but when you finally do respond, it is not in small measures. you never do anything by half.   

 the book is THROWN aside, no care for its delicacy, for how much effort went in to finding it.   because right now– there is only anakin, and you intent to ensure he knows it. 

   arms come to wrap around him and pull until he is fully settled in your lap– firmly against your chest. your own hands grip firmly at thighs, squeezing before sliding back to settle snug around his back– fingertips dancing along his spine beneath his shirt.   you lean up and eyes COME TO LIFE– illuminated by the slowly setting sun, and fangs glisten as your grin spreads. 

  “oh you have me, darling.” raising a single hand, you come to cup his chin– touch sliding toward his cheek.  AFFECTION, adoring in every movement, in the way eyes sweep over his form, take in every beautiful inch and you are CAPTIVATED as ever by everything he is. 

( how wonderful he always was– how utterly perfect, and how he has only blossomed with time. )

 the soft hum of an engine vibrates through obi-wan, slowly bringing him back to consciousness. there is a PAIN that erupts in his skull, causing his hand to come up and press the heel of his hand into his eye.  groan escapes and as his hand falls, it comes back down sticky with drying blood.  

  remembers the searing pain.  the physical abuse and then-- that of the force. 

         ( and it still shocks you, trembles the very walls around your heart. how brightly it burns, how he FLARES in the force. ) 

 lifting slowly, obi-wan comes to sit up straight but knows better than to try and stand. knows how he will only tremble and fall back down. no, now is the time to reserve strength.  has a feeling, he’s going to need it-- if the thick, tendrils of darkness that beginning to seep into the small room is anything to go by. 

        ( you don’t even need to look up. you don’t even need to have your HEARING to KNOW that he is here, that the door has opened and here he stands. ) 

       the hammering of rain upon ground; the sounds of thunder cracking in the gloomy skies,   none of it could compare-- could drown out the gut wrenching sound that had you RUNNING to its source. the empty street was easy enough to navigate given everyone had long since hidden inside from the downpour, and it surprises you how EASILY you find the source. the man the scream had so obviously come from. 

  what isn’t easy to grasp, however, is reality. the sight before you. blood soaked clothes and a man TWISTED in a pain you are sure runs far deeper than just skin deep. the anguish, that look in fiery eyes-- you know it is not just of one in physical pain.   this is a man betrayed, a man who has been wronged. 

  ---and it takes everything in you to only reach out a timid hand. to not instantly swoop in and help him, soothe him, offer him ANYTHING he might need in order to stand taller once more-- to be unburdened by a pain this deep. 

 but where there is resistance in you, there is also faltering. if you cannot do one thing-- it will be another. you cannot be the hero to a stranger so bitter, but you can be HELPFUL, logical when they clearly aren’t in the right mindset to do so for them-self.     --hands reach, already prepared to capture weakened body as it falls in spite of the determination still bubbling within strangers heart. and you can’t help the way fondness DANCES inside you.        straightening up, you bear the weight of him without hesitation, arms moving to a firm hold as you begin to move without waiting for approval.

       pausing, head lifts from the datapad you had been reading as you left your office– brow curves as you take in the sight of the jedi knight before you. how he tries so hard to exude CONFIDENCE in his surroundings– but how quickly is snaps, falls to the floor in a heap in the same way his weapon does.   AMUSEMENT flickers across your features and suddenly, what has been otherwise a long and boring night, now becomes interesting. 

 smirk curls within the corners of your mouth and you yourself, now come to lean in the doorway– one foot tucked behind the other and arms crossing lazily as you watch him intently.

         it’s not like the first time.  that is what you HAVE to remind yourself. there is no need to be on edge, to feel surprised. this is not that two of you meeting again for the first time since the break up.  it’s not that intense.  but your heart doesn’t seem to get the message– refuses to accept the facts as they are placed down. instead, it THUMPS– the feeling travelling up and through you. breath is caught, chest feels TIGHT with the pressure of it.  because looking at him across the table, it is like the moment all over again. eyes catching, realisation hitting. 

                                               –only this time, it doesn’t stop. 

somehow, the waves keep coming in and you know you DESERVE this drowning, this choking.  

   that he remembers, that you still occupied a space, a small area in his mind, that details remained even with all the wounds you left upon him. the thought CHOKES YOU, and you have to found to five. remember how to breathe. tell your body to move again. but the actions are jerky, uncomfortable. and a scream seems to linger on the tip of your tongue. the man you were before daring to burst forth, PLEADING to be allowed a place once more, to return. 

   ( to reach out to the man you denied him, to be able to bask in the glow of him, to be brought back to life again. ) 

 forcing up a smile– you stamp him back down. you did it for a reason. you had your reasons for putting aside your heart, for letting anakin go free. you have to remind yourself of that– that there was a reason you killed your heart. 

     “i uh– yeah,” laugh and the sound is breathy, an echo of what it was. ( so much changes within a year. )   “still my favourite. i’m surprised you remembered.” 

 wonder if it is TOO MUCH to tell him you still remember the way he mumbled in his sleep. still recall the feel of his hands pressing into your skin– can perfectly picture the way his eyes would narrow, brows furrowing as he focused on fixing your constantly faulty coffee machine. how the sound of his tired voice on lazy sunday mornings is permanently imprinted upon your mind. 

    –how every last part of him, is pressed to the very pages that make up your soul. every word, a dedication to him.

     small, cut off sound escapes throat– the very edge of a whine as you are LIFTED from the ground and swept up into anakin’s embrace. eyes widen in shock and you are left, for a moment, utterly perplexed. frozen, simply STARING at him before blue eyes finally narrow and you begin to SQUIRM in his hold.  hands press uselessly at his chest– firm hold surprisingly strong.
