The floorboards groaned under his weight as Skurge staggered to his bed in the small room of the tavern inn. His bulk tilted and he had to send out an elbow quickly to catch himself on the wall, shaking the drowsiness from his head. He paused a moment, refocusing his eyes on the target that had not seemed so far away before. At least the coughing fits had passed . . .

He shoved the heel of his hand to his eyes, refocusing them. When the two beds circulating round his vision finally converged into one, he took a few more steps forward before he finally dropped himself down.

He only made it halfway, but the bed still sagged deeply under the weight of his torso. With some effort, he managed to heave himself over to a sitting position on the floor.

He tilted his head back, his eyes slowly fluttering closed under his heavy brows. "Enchantress will be back soon," he murmured to himself. "She promised."
