@skulrot   loves   you   so   much .   /   ic   asks

he  smooths  her  thick  head  of  curls  with  the  same tenderness  a  mother  bird  might  preen  her  chick .   chunky  red  crayon  trails  across  the  page  as  she  details  the  gruesome  details  of  what  is  stained  into  her  father’s  jacket .   entrails  spill  from  his  pockets  and   blood  stains  once  blue  fabric  dark  crimson .   little  head’s  bent  over  the  picture  closely   ——   closer  examination  reveals  an  ax  being  lugged  after  him ,   while  his  free  hand  is  caught  in  the  needy  hold  of  a  familiar  girl .   she  doesn’t  fear  him ,   does  she ?   bright - eyed  adoration  and  unfaltering  trust  can  be  picked  out  from  even  this  simple  crayon  scrawl .   

olivia  sees  that  it’s  getting  smaller ,   the  crayon .   her  heart  sinks  at  the  thought  of  it  wearing  away  entirely  as  she  draws  picture  after  picture;   this  won’t  last  forever ,   will  it ?   but  her  time  here  might .   (  which  doesn’t  seem  such  a  bleak  reality ,   not  anymore ;   dad  loves  her  and  she  loves  him  and  he’ll  look  after  her .   they’ll  look  after  each  other .  )   a  tiny  smile  is  drawn  upon  the  pale  girl’s  visage .   blissful  ignorance  cannot  go  unchecked ,   however;   a  niggling  voice  speaks  out  from  the  back  of  her  head .

FOREVER ?   it  sneers .   FOREVER  AND  EVER ?   but  you’ll  grow  up  here ,   grow  taller ,   and  bigger ,   and  become  less  of  his  child  every  day .   taken  under  his  wing  for  few  precious  years  before  he  pushes  you  out  of  the  nest  to  fend  for  yourself   ------   or  breaks  your  wings  and  picks  apart  your  delicate  flesh .   

he  wouldn’t  do  that ,   a  quieter  voice  denies .   maybe  before  but  certainly  not  now .   not  if  she’s  a  good  girl .   (  once  upon  a  time  she  clung  to  his  presence  only  because  of  the  terror  he  inspired  in  the  other  monsters ,   to  survive:   yet  something  more  has  blossomed  in  her  hateful  heart .   you  love  him ,   don’t  you ?   the  monster  who’d  kill  to  keep  you  safe .  )  his  words  jolt  her  from  that  fearful  train  of  thought ,   such  animal  concern  is  all  but  swept  away  as  he  speaks  out .   his  voice  is  a  quiet  rumble .   acri  keeps  to  himself  a  lot  but  he’s  always  opened  up  to  her ,   always  has  a  kindly  domestic  word  to  spare  for  his  kid .

❛  mmhm .   t’morrow ,  ❜   olivia  agrees  softly .   overwhelming  death  clings  to  her  now  too   ------   what  did  she  smell  of  before ?   more  innocent  things ,   of  that  she’s  sure .   apple  shampoo  and  ink  from  the  pen  that  exploded  in  her  pocket ,   earth  streaked  across  her  clothes  and  candy  on  her  breath .   but  before  doesn’t  matter  anymore .   a  playful  hum  of  finality  emits  from  the  child  and  she  shuffles  back  a  touch  closer ,   moving  to  perch  herself  on  her  father’s  lap .   gray  brown  eyes  peek  up  at  him  bright  with  gentle  warmth .

Skulrot is San Fernando Valley Punk, an effervescent trio with a tenacious appetite for creating original tunes. These bags of bones, John (Guitar/ Vox), Paul (Percussion) and Sanford (Bass/Vox) can get the graveyard rocking with music infused with influences from bands like The Ramones, the Misfits, the Exploited, and even Mud Honey. Their recent single Operations, a music video shot in Lake View Terrace, California,  is now online.
