Guys how do I make Eret injured very badly and in a lot of places but still able to ride Skullcrusher and genuinely do the things he did before getting hurt in a small amount of time/weeks?

Note: Just to clarify things, I'm still writing the story, and I will not be releasing any Chapter in Ao3 until I've edited it and I'm sure it's how I want it to be. Expect those 6 Chapters (not counting Learning Your Scars) to be available on Ao3 at the end of July or around the 15th of August.

I hate how some people criticise me for making Skullcrusher curl around Eret, saying that because of his body shape and bulky build, that's impossible.
Well, then you haven't watched Rtte. Because that dragon can fly and move a lot faster than what you might expect from a creature his size. We've seen him fall onto his back. Grab Stoick with his horn. He can bring his forelegs all the way up to his jaws. Flop onto his side. There's an episode in which he literally has his tail wrapped around his forelegs. And people still say he can't curl around his rider. Just... Go watch the series.
I was watching the second movie again and realised something (that's useful for The Things We'D Do For Love too).
I'm pretty sure that Eret believes Stoick's death is his fault. Why? If he hadn't brought the riders to Drago, they wouldn't get caught, and Drago wouldn't have rushed so much to attack Valka's Sanctuary, and the reunited family (Stoick, Hiccup and Valka) could return to Berk. But he did lead them to Drago, rushed a war which eventally led to Stoick's death and Skullcrusher losing his rider. I'm CONVINCED that Eret thought himself guilty for Stoick's death and would 100% believe he's unworthy to be Skullcrusher's rider. However these thoughts changed and eventually stopped bothering him during the first two months of being in Berk, although The Things We'D Do For Love picks up the story three months after the events of Httyd 2, but still it's yet another trauma I can add to the pile for him.
Okay. I think it's finally time to talk about my main Httyd project, obviously focusing on Eret and Skullcrusher, duh! It's tittled "The Things We'd Do For Love", and it follows them through their hardships, adventures and developement as characters. Separated for each month, every chapter (or multiple in a lot of cases), will present the significant events of said month, as well and the impact they might have on the chracters. Filled with both Eret's and Skullcrusher's POVs, as well and a mutual 3rd person narration, this story is filled with action, drama, adventure, emotion and obviously, dragons!
Now, I must admit that the story isn't finished, ON PAPER. I have a timeline and I know exactly what happens, when and why, as well and the impact it has on the characters without changing them. As for the progress... Oh boy. I do like writting everything on paper first, and that has kept me back a lot, but not as much as school did. In fact, I've only written only four chapters that all focus on the begging of the story, and I'm still writing the first chapter, "A Rescue Mission Gone Wrong" on Ao3. Another issue are my writing skills, since I'm relatively new to this writing stuff and my language, since English isn't my native language. However, I do hope I'll manage to finish it over the course of this year, although updates will be scarce and will take some months, I believe. But.. I just can't allow myself of not ever finishing this, no matter the number of unfinished projects I have (Fear/Corruption Au, Lycanwing Au, Bleeding Shadows Au, House Of The Dragon Au, and more I can't quite recall right now), since Eret and Skullcrusher always meant more than two simple characters to me. They have so much potencial for a good story, and I'm determined to present that story to you, no matter what.
