Klossy | How To Prep Skin for Make Up in 9 Steps | Karlie Kloss
What is your Skin prep before makeup?
1. First I wash my face! At the moment I’m really liking the DERMA-E Purifying Gel Cleanser. Sometimes I’ll cleanse with the CVS Skin + Pharmacy Microdermabrasion Scrub when my skin is feeling particularly rough.Â
2. Then I exfoliate my skin with the Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution from The Ordinary so that my makeup will apply smoothly.Â
3. After that I moisturize with jojoba oil (from Desert Essence) and squalane (from The Ordinary). I use both because jojoba oil alone isn’t enough to keep my skin moisturized. Jojoba oil is an emollient, which is nice since it softens the surface of the skin, but squalane is an occlusive meaning that it creates a barrier on the skin which prevents water loss, keeping you moisturized longer. I also like using oils because it makes my foundations look dewier. However, if you’re using a heavily water based foundation it’d probably be better to use a traditional cream/gel moisturizer since, you know, oil and water don’t mix lolÂ
4. Lastly, I apply the Nyx pore filler primer to my smile lines, or the milani mattifying primer in my t-zone depending on what foundation I’m wearingÂ
I hope this is helpful to you 💖
~*PREP YOUR SKIN FOR MAKEUP*~
There's a reason why these tips are routinely recommended by makeup artists and estheticians. It's because that's how important they are 😉
(1) EXFOLIATE
For best results, exfoliate your skin at least once a week. This will help unclog pores and remove dead skin cells.
(2) CLEANSE
Wash your face with a basic cleanser before applying your makeup.
(3) HYDRATE/MOISTURIZE
This step really depends on your skin type. Skin prep for makeup is not the same as your full skincare routine! Over-application of products will decrease makeup's longevity. Let products absorb before applying your makeup.

Are you putting your best bronzed foot forward?
Are you getting the best tan you could be? Make sure you are flawless by preparing the right way.
Same rules apply for DIY at home!
Exfoliate in the days leading up to your tan, up to 24 hours prior to your tan application. Be sure to remove all dead skin and old tan. This way you are starting on a fresh base.
Wax/Shave areas at least 24 hours prior. If you do this right before your tan you will have those little brown dots which is not the look we are trying to achieve.
Have clean skin. This means no moisturiser, deodorant or perfumes on your skin. If you have the 24 hour clinical protection deodorant on this can go green so be sure to exfoliate this area and not apply the day of your tan.
If you have showered before your appointment, make sure you are not hot and you are completely dry.
 Happy Tanning.

Can I still have a spray tan if I'm peeling?
The weather is finally warming up and we are seeing some sun for the first time in what feels like months. This also means our delicate skin is being exposed to the UV rays with the risk of getting burnt. If you do become burnt and your skin starts to peel, you may find yourself asking this question. Can I still have a spray tan if I'm peeling?
Physically? Yes, you can be spray tanned.  Will it look any good? No! The tan will accentuate the peeling in a really bad way.Â
As much as it pains me to say, sometimes you just have to say no to a spray tan. Spray tan attaches to the outer layers of your skin, so if your skin is constantly peeling, you will have a very uneven bad tan, sometimes in a couple of hours.Â
To help speed up the process of peeling you can gently exfoliate in the shower using a mitt or glove. You can also exfoliate when dry again  using a mitt or glove.
As always the best thing is prevention and taking the right steps to avoid getting sun burnt in the first place. Make sure you always wear sunscreen when in the sun. Protect your self! On that note, please also remember spray tan does not offer any protection from the sun, you will still require sun screen.
Until next time.
