1. Already answered, but I’ll give another: Mary-Christ by Sonic Youth.
7. Green Onions by Booker T. and the MG’s. Always loved that one, I probably first heard it on the radio but it sticks out to me from being in the trailer to Chicken Run.
11. Panorama by The Cars. They did Touch And Go and Up And Down when I saw them in Chicago four years ago, but not the title track. They rocked pretty hard for a bunch of sixty-something dudes (and for reuniting even after Ben died) so if they have one last tour in them at some point I would give my front teeth for my favorite song of all time to make the setlist.
12. Already answered, but I’ll give another Illinois artist in Passing Complexion by Big Black. I was astounded to find out where they’re from since most other Illinois music I’ve heard is so…wholesome.
32. Already answered, but maybe The Way by Fastball for another one. It was one of my favorite songs in elementary school, and still is a really damn great song, but that shit is downright macabre.
40. I’ll Make A Man Out Of You, if for nothing other than the fact that it is one of the few songs that will inspire automatic singalongs if you so much as mention anything in the lyrics among people of my generation. Even among non-men, which makes it even funnier.
