Brooklyn’s Ivan and Ada, aka Tiny Masters of Today, have recorded and released a new album which will still impress as much as their previous work provided you bear in mind they’re still young teenagers.

The album, Skeletons is very consistent but unfortunately is also kind of samey or perhaps it just takes a while to get into (and I’ve listened to it quite a few times). The opener ‘Drop the Bomb’ is nearly all instrumental and it sets the pace of the album, which is quite stompy with grungy riffs.

The title track starts with ferocious drumming (for a 15 year old); the guitar work is really scratchy and contagious but at times is just plain simple and compact, so compact it could even be a that new riff that future generations will want to reproduce. Their single ‘Pop Chart’ comes next and again it has that simple, lo key yet catchy riff. It sounds infantile but they get away with it for the obvious reasons but again (like in many of this album’s tracks) the song doesn’t seem to go anywhere despite its first strong appeal.

The rest of the album follows the same points laid out from the start and as they say the big challenge is to make create similar songs and still make them sound interesting. I cannot say that Skeletons is boring but you have to like this band a lot or just listen to them a lot in order to get a buzz.
