The initial terraformed area, outlined in black, expanded over the permanent sea ice and spread further north during the winter but neither the seals or polar bear developed regular seasonal colonies on any of the islands that experience seasonal sea ice during the time the reserve was open.

The plankton were a case of out of sight, out of mind and were only seeded once even though both the artic cod and ring seal populations had to be replenished, especially after ice fishing was offered as an additional activity to guests.

The initial terraformed area did not stay combined. The biome for elk, in brown, expanded south while the biome for smilodon expanded north. The bighorn sheep continued to live in both biomes while the rabbits stayed in the smilodon biome. The smilodons expanded their range into the elk biome during the warm summers and withdrew to their biome in winter.

The initial terraformed area, outlined in black, expanded fairly uniformly being held back by the mountain range only by the time the reserve closed and the planet was sold but the terraformed species had remained constrained to Serengeti.

The wilderbeast and zebra herds were surviving and evenly spread through the yellow area but Serengeti was the area that had to be reseeded with grass most frequently while the company operated and it was noted that the zebra herds relied heavily on browsing.

The initial terraformed area, shown as a black out line in the map below, has expanded north - in grey - and south - in green - by the time the reserve closed and the planet was sold but the terraformed species had remained constrained to Siberia. The grey patch reflects the extent of the evergreen forest and the dire wolf population. The green patch reflects the extent of the open woodland. By the time the continent was abandoned there was a small bison herd in the green area and two different mammoth herds in the grey and green areas. Both mammoth herds are smaller than their historic ancestors with the grey herd being as tall but slimmer and the green herd being just smaller in general.

The project was a success with many repeat customers and expanded to offer hunting of other animals already seeded beyond the originally identified game. Other expansions included petting and photo opportunities, where baby animals were taken from their parents and then discarded when they became too big or too aggressive. These animals were no longer scared of humans making them easy kills.

Another success for the project was the lack of interest in the planet’s native flora and fauna. During the course of the planets use as a tourist destination, there were no deaths on the planet due to injuries or illnesses acquired on the planet or illnesses exported from the planet. Nor did any guests notice the native flora and fauna they interacted with as alien.

Bankruptcy and Sale

Unfortunately, while this project was a financial success, this was not true of all of the company’s projects and after 75 years of the planet acting as a hunting reservation and hosting multiple weddings and diplomatic events, the parent company went bankrupt. The planet was bundled with a number of other assists for sale as part of the bankruptcy proceedings.

The below map shows the extent of the invasive biomes at the point the planet was abandoned.

West Gemini is mostly ice cap with a small area of tundra but its close proximity to more temperate Yellowstone meant it was chosen as the staging ground for polar bear hunting.
