So, DOES your mother know you hang out at Drones Club? Yeah, both my parents are aware that I hang out there. They don't "get" it but they "get it", y'know? They admire the entrepreneurial spirit, at the very least. But maybe not actually. My mom is going to come to a show there this month.
Where did the name Drones come from? Ah, the name Drones Club. It came from Jackson's mouth, and it done stuck. It's named after a "gentleman's club" in a series of books by PG Wodehouse. For this reason I do not like the name. But you know, it already done stuck. I think it's bad to lie to people because there are no gentleman at the Drones Club that I know of ;) jk jk
What is your least favorite thing to deal with at Drones? Hmmm, I am often annoyed by a certain type of young crowd (McGill?) that come around for shows or parties and treat the place with disrespect - bad attitudes, breaking things, drinking on the street, acting entitled. But they don't do it in a punk way, cuz that would be semi-acceptable. It's almost as if they were musicians, with attitudes like that! These are usually students just looking for a place to get frigged up, and generally not that interested in music or supporting a DIY community. HAHAH JOKES ON YOU SUCKERS you are supporting a DIY community ! Give us your money!!!
If you had to eat one Drones Club member, who would it be? Well, I would have to say Jackson, because he's just the sweetest!
If you could select three Canadian acts for a dream show at Drones, who would you book? This is difficult- I don't want to dig deep and make a real answer - so how about Rush before Neil Peart retires? With Drake and Freelove Fenner.
If you had the ~power~ to make one change to the Canadian music community, what would you alter? I would change the band name Viet Cong to Nutty Professor II: The Klumps and they aren't allowed any take-backs or tradesies.
If your projects Sivani and Hand Cream were to come to life in the form of human beings, would they get along? Do you think they could they fall in love? But of course! They were meant to be. "You complete me." I think Sivani is a little more self-assured, open to trying new things and has less baggage. She has been actively working towards a healthy attitude lifestyle, while Hand Cream likes to draw more on past pains for inspiration. Both are meditative and healing, but in different ways. They want to be near each other.
Is there anything you avoid writing songs about? I don't think so. Sometimes i feel i may have to cap the amount of songs that I may write about one particular subject. I feel sometimes I am far more candid and open with my lyrics than I ever would be in real life. Something I might take 2 years to tell a friend or lover about, out of fear or shame, they could likely find out about in a few minutes by listening to whatever particular song.
If you weren’t a musician, what do you think you would be like? I truly can't imagine...I would have likely attempted to become a comedian, or an author of science-fiction novels. In the 90's, I really wanted to become a professional skateboarder like Elissa Steamer. I'll choose that?
If you could eat anything right now, what would it be? It would be my mom's traditional cooking! Any Ismaili-style (East-African influenced Indian cuisine) curry would make me very happy rn. I have learned a lot of her recipes, but it's always so much better when a Ma makes it.
What were you doing at midnight last night? I was performing my very first stand-up comedy set at Brasserie!
Scale from 1-10, how great do you look today? Oof! Well sometimes you gotta fake it til ya make it so I will say 10 baby!!
