We only see what we look at. To look is an act of choice. As a result of this act, what we see is brought within our reach—though not necessarily within arm's reach. To touch something is to situate oneself in relation to it.

Wk 2 In Class: SEEDÂ Exercise
We were asked to bring along something made, a reading response, or object that related to what we were currently interested in. I chose to do a reading response to Harriet Shortt’s essay: Liminality, Space and the Importance of Transitory Dwelling Places at Work. We were introduced to S.E.E.D - Situate, evaluate, experiment and discuss. Claire and I went through and applied SEED to the reading I brought to class.Â
Situate - this reading fits in terms of the work place, boundaries/thresholds, identity and humans behaviour.Â
Evaluate - it was important as we as humans are always transitioning into new places, it also gives a more personal, identity-orientated perspective on liminal spaces and questions social codes and behaviours in the liminal spaces.Â
Experiment - investigating people’s experiences within liminal space through observation and documentation and comparing that to how people act within dominant spaces.Â
Discuss - from this reading Claire and I discussed the idea of being in a state of transition and how that it’s obviously not only applicable to spaces but to state of mind, identity, practise etc. We also talked about what liminal materials could be and how peoples thought’s response and movement is effected when knowingly within a liminal space.Â
