“My lord,” his voice was tight, consonants straining out through bared teeth. He loathed these meetings. He worked hard, he strove for greatness. And Vader-- he had everything. He could end someone’s life simply because he was in poor spirits, and there would be no repercussions. Yet Krennic couldn’t help but poke the hornet’s nest. 

“Your last visit was a matter of days ago. Surely you can’t expect there to have been much progress in your absence.” He knew that no one believed in the project as firmly as he did-- even Galen. But he would risk everything to see it to completion. It was his legacy, he knew that its success would solidify his place in the Emperor’s inner circle. 

The Sith Lord’s presence was suffocating.

The anger, the hate, the darkness...it made Cal’s blood run cold. It was much stronger than the emotions that had almost swallowed him up when he touched Trilla’s blade – much more intimidating. He didn’t even want to imagine what he’d experience if he touched his lightsaber. It might just make him crazy.

Vader had found him, it seemed. Cal had expected as much. The Sith Lord was hunting Jedi, after all, and Cal had put himself on his radar. Still, he didn’t expect it to be so soon. The wound Vader had given him last time had only just healed.

There was no running this time though. Vader blocked the only exit. If Cal wanted to get away, he needed to get past him.

Using the force, he pulled his lightsaber to hand, igniting it.

If death wasn’t a part of life, Mara would quickly be out of a job, and she never stopped to question what would happen to her if the Emperor had no more use for her. She simply performed constantly and consistently the way he wanted to. She didn’t fail him. She brought death to those who her disloyal to him, she spied on whoever he asked. Death was part of her job. It was also something she accepted every time she went out to fight. This could be the last time she fought. She did not fear it. If she died, then she died doing the one thing in life that gave her purpose, she died for the Emperor.

There’s a moment. A beat. The edges of their shattered bond like fractured glass tearing deeper into his heart. He shudders with the phantom pain, the eternal burn he had brought to the monster who had killed his best friend.
