Herb McCormick's book included a really good piece about the start of Rich Wilson's 2001-02 attempt at the New-York-to-Melbourne record in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, and to my great delight, the SitesAlive site for that expedition is still up and accessible! (And so are the sites for all of their other projects going back to 1993!)

It would be completely possible to re-read the logs and posts day by day, 25 years later, this fall and winter.
