The Emperor’s Hunt
‘50 gold lass or nothing, take it or leave it!’
The blonde had to grit her teeth before slapping the necessary coins into the merchant’s hand, a hoarse chuckle coming from the man before he slipped them into his purse, his other hand holding a large pouch from its cord. Fifty gold for water...it was unfair! It was practically free in other city-states so she couldn’t understand why the hefty price was needed.
She almost snatched it from his hand, quickly spinning on her feet to leave his presence as quickly as possible. She wasn’t quite sure what was making her so irritable; the lack of hydration or the desert sun beating down on them. Either or, she solved one problem pretty much instantly, tugging on the cork and taking a large swig of the liquid.
‘Ha.....hmff’
Although she was usually one to compose herself, it was hard not to considering this was the first time she had had water since the day before. As soon as she had enough, she quickly resealed the pouch, tying the cords to her belt to make sure she didn’t lose the damn thing. She stood there motionless for a second before a hand slid into her pocket, pulling out a battered piece of parchment.
Why on earth would an ‘Emperor’ want to bring people to Nerimazeth? Weren’t the nobility of the desert where the Sun Disk was...this doesn’t add up. She re-read the advert, leaning back against the nearest wall.
The pay is decent...so should I care? It can’t be that bad of a job, can it?
