'how does it feel to be different from me? are we the same?' he's thinking about how hikaru and him are growing apart and how he is so conflicted; part of him doesn't want anything to change [the carriage! the carriage!!], but he knows it's for the best for hikaru so he just listens to the song and gets stuck in his head, trying to pretend everything is fine [it's not but if he pretends, maybe it'll feel like it?].

i can see him and hikaru [and me ajdhdh] rocking out to here's to never growing up by avril, too. it's such a bop of a song!! hanging out and just being dumbasses and living in the moment and not wanting to grow up. i have angst on the mind, so ofc i can also twist this song to be sad [for kaoru, he's more self-aware imo, poor baby]. hikaru and kaoru just rocking out and kaoru starts thinking about the lyrics a bit too much and then the song becomes bittersweet. like, 'and we're never gonna change', 'say, won't you say "forever"? stay, if you stay forever, hey, we can stay forever young', that feeling creeps up on kaoru about things changing and how he just wants to stay forever young. and he just tries to cherish the moments he has with hikaru cause he's knows [read: assumes] that it'll all be gone soon.
