    often times she is asked to report her status: her physical well-being, the way her bones ache beneath the pressure of their expectations. she is asked vague and impossible questions: to describe the way her veins feel when injected with a stimulant, to count the seconds between the burning sensations that send her to her knees. they ask all sorts of bizarre, invasive questions, but they do not ask if she’s happy.

surprise overtakes her features — that’s not where this conversation was supposed to head at all. she SUPPOSES her phrasing was vague, but she didn’t think he’d jump to that conclusion so easily. it’s not ... like that. at least, she didn’t THINK it was. lyss can understand the confusion, but ... it’s not how she feels. she doesn’t often do things she’ll REGRET. cool fingers search out his, the other hand tilting his chin up with a frown.

            boredom  a  farce,  krul  finds  herself  lounging  a  little  TOO  comfortably  against  the  threshold.  “why!  who  would  have  thought  we’d  meet  again  so  soon?”  though,  the  tell  comes  by  the  non-to  subtle  glance  at  both  ferid  &  crowley.
