*Peyton has felt odd lately; some out of character way that she simply cannot place. But one thing she knows is that she’d sure like a friend right about now. Or at the very least, someone to talk to. A distraction from the character development unusual feelings, maybe?*
*After several failed attempts at contacting Lee recently, in addition to having her suggestion for casual conversation with Sadie shot down, she decides to try and give Adina a call. She dials the number and waits as it rings.*
Adina hadn't moved in the days since Lee had died in her arms. At most, she had paced around and stared out the window that she and him once shared a conversation at.
She still had trouble processing it. How could she, the one person she's ever loved, die? How could this happen?
She looks back on her memories of Lee, and then remembers everything else.
She remembers all the pain she's caused to everyone before she met Lee. Sarai, Ava, Milan, Emily, Perach. Even though she had apologized to Emily and her lovers, she knew she was just lucky that time that Emily decided to hear her out. The others would not be forgiving, and she accepted that - so there was no reason to apologize. Rhiannon only had so much power over her. Adina herself had caused so much hurt.
Is this my punishment? For everything I've done?
And you wonder why she left you before you could break her too.
Yes. This is my punishment. I understand now.
The ringing of her phone briefly snaps her out of her spiraling thoughts. She looks up from the bed to see who could be calling her.
She hadn't realized that all of Lee's friends would probably know by now too. Or did they not know? Was that why Peyton was calling?
Adina's hand wanders to the phone, about to pick it up before she stops herself. If Peyton was calling to ask where Lee was, Adina didn't want to say. She knew she didn't have the energy to say anything about it.
And plus, Adina knew she didn't deserve friends. Peyton would be better off spending her time with someone else.
With a defeated sigh, Adina lays her head back down on her pillow as the phone continues to ring. Once the ringing stops, she is once again back with the silence of her surroundings and the loudness of her thoughts.
