Ok so you might have noticed I’ve started posting a bit less vintage and a bit more personal-ish and music stuff.

I like the vintage community and all but it sometimes seems a bit more oriented on how everyone’s theme and icon and posts have to be perfect and uniform and ‘clean’ than on the content of the blogs and the characters of the people themselves (read voiris’s hiatus note from a few months ago). It’s why I don’t do blogrates: someone could have put a lot of thought and effort into doing their theme just how they want it but it takes one rating of 7 or an “ok” instead of “perfect” to make them feel bad about their own taste. Like, for all the uplifting messages and chain asks we all send out, we don’t really dole out as much self-esteem as we think we do.

The people around here are great when I talk to you one-on-one though. You’re really sweet and polite and have interesting stuff to talk about and a lot of you seem to be genuinely interested in other people’s lives. Sometimes though it seems like when someone who’s trying so hard to be really nice runs into a bit of interpersonal conflict it’s easy to get a bit passive-aggressive instead of trying to work out the issue sensibly. It’s just one of my biggest pet peeves so I guess that’s why it only seems to bother me. Usually everything’s fine though and I hope I can still talk to you guys after essentially shitting on our entire community lmao

So anyway I’ve unfollowed a bunch of the vintage people I followed (only the ones who weren’t mutuals of course!). I’ll still post vintage but I’m turning my blog’s overall aesthetic into something a bit more personal/musical like my sideblog because it fits more with me as a person than the more restrictive label of ‘vintage’. It’s not really because of you guys; I love interacting with my followers, but I’d just rather have a few followers with a lot in common to talk about than a lot of followers whose only goals are to post the same stuff all the time to gain more followers.
