Y/N POV
Grayson and I have been dating for about 5 months. We’ve grown really close and we’ve been exclusive for about 4 months. I’ve met his daughter about 2 times, but Grayson talks about her all the time and it’s really the cutest thing ever. When he talks about her and her relationship with him and his brother, his eyes light up. We met through Ethan, who I had been friends with for a while, after he and his ex fiancé, Estella, split Grayson and I became friends. Ethan, Grayson, Ryan, and I started podcasting together.
Grayson had invited me out for lunch today. We were going to this small french cafe in LA, where we wouldn’t get pestered by fans too much. Grayson and I were sitting next to each other, having coffee and scones, when he got a text from Ethan. He looked at his phone for a moment apologizing and a moment later his face lit up and his laughter filled the air around us. I smiled looking at him to see what had happened. “It’s a picture of Bella. She has a playdate with her friend in a few hours, I’m supposed to drop her off after our lunch, so Ethan’s getting her ready.” He lifted his phone showing me a photo of Bella’s hair with 2 lopsided pony tails and an excessive amount of butterfly clips littering her head. I giggled at the sight, as Gray responded to the text.
“So how is Bella doing?” I asked, having a more specific question in mind, but unsure as to how to go about it. “She's only 3, but growing too fast on me.” He chuckled, placing his arm around the back of my chair, leaning back and sipping his coffee. “Babe?” I asked hesitantly. He looked at me not saying anything silently asking what I had on my mind today. “I uh...I wanna know what happened with your ex. Does she still come around?” He sighed, removing his arm from around me and sitting up straight. “I mean we’ve been together for so long and I feel like I need to know about that part of your life. I get it if it’s too difficult for you-” “No, no.” He cut me off. “I just don’t like to talk about her, it’s just bad vibes. It’s only fair that I tell you about my ex if you’ve told me about yours.” I placed my arm comfortingly on his shoulder. He placed his hand on top of mine holding it and placing them on the table.
“Bella’s mom, Estella, was my high school sweetheart. We we’re together since sophomore year. I was homeschooled but Estella was there for me, and Ethan.” I sighed thinking of how much this must’ve hurt him. I looked down at our joined hands on the dark wood table as he continued. “We got engaged when I was 20, she was only 19. That was the only public part of our relationship, other than Bella. I had hid her from my Instagram, she only appeared with me as a friend, until the engagement announcement, and I think in some ways it all must’ve hurt her too.” He sighed, before I could console him he continued as if he just wanted to rush it out and never talk about it again.
“We found out 2 months before we were supposed to get married, that she was pregnant. She told me she wanted to get a Dna test, that’s when I found out she had been cheating on me. We got the test unbeknownst to her family, I of course told Ethan. Once we found out that Bella was mine, we postponed the wedding. Up until she left, we faked the love and happiness between us, there was nothing left just a show for our families. Two months after Bella was born, Estella admitted she didn’t want to keep up with our lie, and that she’d found someone else. She walked out on us and my family helped me take care of Bella.” He leaned back in his chair and I turned to hear him finish his monologue.
“I found out later Estella had told her family that I had cheated on her. The only person in her family who knows the truth is her mother.” I sighed. “I’m so sorry baby.” I placed my hand on his shoulder.
“It’s ok now. I’m over her, Bella doesn’t know and I know she’ll ask me at some point. I wanna tell her that her mother was a good person. I just wanna be ready and I wanna be able to tell her that even though her mother isn’t here, that she’ll still have someone who can be there for her. Ya know?”
“Yeah baby, of course I get it.” He turned his head and looked at me in the eyes. “Hey, this is supposed to be a happy lunch, not a pity party for me.” I giggled in response. “Look I don’t want you to worry about this. I love you now. That’s the only thing on my mind.”
I smiled. “I love you too baby.” We shared a short kiss. “I don’t want to hurt you like that.” I sighed. Touching lips again. “Ever.”
