new fiber art for me!
Got to take a class on weaving! That’s brand new to me, but it felt good. Haven’t decided yet if I’m going to actually buy a loom and start doing this at home, but it was fun and satisfying :D
this piece isn’t really intended to be anything specific, but I guess it could theoretically be a scarf? It’s a lovely soft cotton. I’ll figure something out to do with it sooner or later. But either way it was fun!

I think one social thing a lot of anxious and especially autistic people (me) struggle with is trying to hard to always remain calm and under control. If you have a lot of memories of having big reactions as a child that no one else understood, it makes a lot of sense, but ultimately, it is, I think, a trap. Because part of what people want in a conversation is to see that they're having an effect on you. They want to see that you're getting interested in them, that you're excited when they're excited and happy to see them. If you're always projecting calm and clamping down on emotional reactions, you're projecting a level of disinterest. People can learn to see past that, but it makes things harder, and more importantly, it means you miss out on the joys of feeling happy and excited and interested with someone else, of letting yourself express an emotion and then seeing it reflected back to you from the other person, and that's one of the best and most fulfilling parts of any relationship
i can't believe the flyers' season isn't over yet... i'm genuinely giddy about it. smiling through it all can't believe this is my life, etc.
Rooting
Before, I mapped rooms by their exits
rather than their furniture.
Escape plans and contingencies
were dear friends.
Now, I am experimenting with what it's like
to let a window be just a window,
and a door be just a door.
Trust is returning like a stray animal,
tender, terrified.
I tell it to be brave, that this time
things might be different.
Though the sentiment feels foreign,
the words taste sweet on my tongue:
"I am safe here."
I ask my muscles to unclench,
to please stop bracing.
They aren't quite sure how, but they want to try.
I am studying the mechanics of soft things;
how warmth does not have to signal an impending housefire,
and how honesty can be a gift
instead of a loaded gun.
I am learning that vigilance is not a virtue.
That silence is not a poised dagger,
it is simply quiet.
The steady architecture of follow-through
scaffolds peace in my soul.
I no longer flinch when I am seen.
I have learned to exhale.
