-> grammar and punctuation

grammar is probably the most important when it comes to writing anything. grammar helps your sentences make sense, and helps you convey your messages / intentions clearly. before you start writing, it’s important to first build your grammar. find authors with good grammar and language use and it’ll be easy to learn from them! punctuation is another thing to take note of. for example, having long sentences that run for multiple lines with only commas separating the different ideas is a poor habit. use full stops! it keeps ideas separate but still close.

-> paragraphing / sentence structure

paragraphs are to separate key ideas / moments, so don’t clump many many sentences together just to form one paragraph. just keep in mind the purpose of paragraphs to keep your writing organised. for sentence structure, it’s similar to my points about grammar. make sure it’s clear and makes sense and it’s all good.

-> vocabulary

ok so vocabulary is crucial especially when you’re describing a person, place or feeling. try to remember one good word a day, and use these “good words” more often in your writing. alternatively, you can search a simple word and look for synonyms to describe the same thing but with different intensity / level. that helps to expand your vocabulary too :)

-> writing for yourself and not others

honestly, i myself struggled with this in the beginning, but then realised that it really doesn’t matter if people like your work or not. i mean, sure it’s great if they do, but the point is if you enjoy your own work. write something you’re proud of, and write something you enjoy reading. similar to this point, don’t be pressured to follow requests word for word, and don’t stress about finishing them quickly. it’s YOUR blog, with YOUR writing, and no one should control that for you.
