SIMPLE BUT TIME CONSUMING: old/abandoned roads.
First zip ahead to place logs and lanterns so you remember generally where you're going. Then tap like crazy with a shovel to leave the traditional path marks scattered about. Choose two or three types of bricks, and replace some of the dirt blocks with each kind.
This is a long-term project for me that will connect several maps, but you can make smaller roads and paths around gardens or ponds that lead to your house etc.
I mean it's one way to do it

Dark oak treetop base! Still adding details here and there but the best decision was definitely to add a small potato garden. If you don't want to go to groud level any time soon, or if you're in a biome that has few animals, potatoes are the best things to plant. Baked potatoes are the best if there's no meat around.

Recently I've been watching various build tutorials, and even crafted a massive shipwreck-styled base from scratch that I'm pretty proud of...but...super simple is definitely my build style lol!
To that end, here is one of my favorite walls to build around a camp: wood and leaves.
I like them for the wide open expanses like desert and plains, where mobs can easily spot me and make their way over. I can still see movement through the leaves though! And leaving it broken up makes it easier to come and go, while still providing protection.
Almost invisible little tree camp. Baddies can't see me but I can see them through the leaves. Simple farm plot--I stayed at this camp through a couple of growing cycles so I'd have enough seeds and food to leave behind.
Not SUPER simple: making underwater bases and removing all of the water takes time and a lot of sand!! Finding an ocean monument speeds up the process:)
I built up to the surface of the water from the ocean monument, then dropped sand into the opening until it reached the surface too. Now I've got a 2x2 tower of sand in the middle! Hold your breath: Fill the rest of the monument with sand bc it's easy to remove. Line your filled sand house with glass. Now there's no water inside! And when you dig up the sand, you've got a glorious view.
I added blocks up from the center for a ladder to get out easily:) And I put leaves on everything, so there's that haha
