Bio: Cosette’s life story is a little bit fuzzy even for her. Her father, Reid Rosada had a very rough childhood under his father’s care. Reid’s mother had left/dissapeared leaving him in the hands of a mad scientist. He preferred it when his father didn’t pay attention to him. Ever since he could remember his dreams were plagued by a haunting melody. He dreamt of a girl lacking of color who would lead him away from his horrible family life. As he got older the dream faded from his memory, and after graduating he quickly got of town and away from his father. Reid never spoke to his father after that fateful day and had put his past behind him to start his own family. Things were going well for him and his new wife as they welcomed a baby girl into their life. But it wasn’t very long until Reid started to have those weird dreams again: a pale girl standing in the desert, always accompanied by that haunting song. The dreams intensified as the years went by and Reid would wake up with a start and almost swore that there was someone right outside singing the melody. He never saw anyone of course but he slowly lost sleep afraid he would wake up to find his ghost standing in the bedroom. Just when he could bare it no more the dream stopped suddenly and all was peaceful for one night. Until the next day when a strange man dressed all in black appeared on his front door step. This man was his father’s lawyer and he came bearing his will. Reid’s real monster had died quite suddenly in the middle of the desert and apparently from a heart attack. The mad scientist had left Reid his house. Naturally Reid wanted nothing to do with his childhood home as it brought up memories he cared not to remember but the man in black insisted he return one last time or else the remaining part of his will ( a large sum of money to sustain the Rosada family for a long time) would not be given out. Reid reluctantly agreed and so he and his 10 year old daughter, Logan set out for StrangerVille for what he hoped would be the last time. He decided to sell the house but in order to even get a good deal out of it it desperately needed repairs. So that summer he spent doing the work himself, meanwhile Logan explored the home and its secrets. Unlike her father, she loved the desert surroundings and found the place to be enchantingly beautiful. She took great joy in sitting on the porch at night and watching the night sky and sometimes she almost swore she could hear someone singing in the distance. After a few weeks the song made its way into her dreams and she spent her nights chasing the singer down amongst her imagination. On what was supposed to be their last night in the house, Logan awoke from her dreaming to realize she could actually hear the song and it was coming from underneath the house. She rushed to the basement without a second thought. At first glance, the underground storage room looked as it always had ( dark and empty save for a few boxes). But the song grew louder shaking the very floor and Logan noticed for the first time a panel loose on the wall. She shifted it to the side to reveal a secret room. This room, like the first seemed empty at first glance, but a second closer look revealed a startling discovering. In a far corner lay something right out of a sci-fi movie. It looked like a cocoon. Silvery grey and damp to the touch. The song was coming from it and it glowed in time with the music. Terrified out of her mind, Logan ran upstairs to wake her father. A sleepy Reid thought his daughter was having a nightmare, but he too could hear the song again. He tentatively headed down to the basement, Logan too scared to go with him. He too was horrified at what he saw and tore upstairs, grabbed Logan and rushed them to the car. He had the ten year old sit in the front seat as he ran back inside to grab their things. There was no way they could stay any longer and he didn’t want anyone else to know of what his father had been up to in that basement. So, in his crazed state the only logical thing to do was to burn the house down, destroying the home and hopefully whatever it was that was sleeping in the basement. To ensure the deed, he decided to start the fire in the basement with some boxes. After ensuring that Logan was still safely away, he gathered the materials he would need, doing his best to avoid looking at the cocoon. This he would find out later was a big error on his part as while he worked, the cocoon glowed brighter as something shifted inside, the song swelling. As Reid stood in front of the makeshift tinder of boxes, he lit a match and just like that the song ended again. He turned his gaze back to the cocoon and nearly dropped the match in shock. Wide pupilless eyes stared innocently up at him. The being looked very much like a human, and although it was dark in that room he immediately recognized the girl from her pale features. She was the girl who haunted his dreams. Although she looked to be at the very least a young adult, she had an innocent vacant expression on her face as she looked around at her surroundings, reminding him of a child. Reid knew then he couldn’t hurt this being and he snuffed the match with his fingers.
The Rosada family moved into that house. The being was given the name of Cosette, because even though she never spoke for the first few years every few nights or so, she would sing, her voice so haunting it sent chills down his spine. Cosette matured over the years somewhat and Reid found her to be quite intelligent. Even though she couldn’t go to school like Logan, she kept pace with her adopted sister, and even surpassed her under her father, Reid’s tutorship. Cosette never left the Rosada estate in her youth as they were afraid she would be taken away, but as she got older she rebelled by sneaking out to explore the desert. Sometimes Logan would go with her. After Logan returned from college she moved her and Cosette into a small trailer on the outskirts of Strangerville giving Cosette her first taste of freedom. Still though she yearned for more. She knew the day would come when she would finally be on her own.
