Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic: Extreme Heights
I remember being like 13 or 14 when I had RCT2 and I would play this one because the objective was literally to build the biggest tallest faster coasters you’ve ever built and there are no rules or money, and I would never get far because of both the landscape and the guest amount, but now I’m back with a vengeance, and with the sophistication this game has given me, and I will now build one of the worlds most extreme amusement parks.
My goal is to make every coaster have an excitement of at least 6, and an intensity of at least 9, which for some coasters is harder than you’d think. You just have to have a ton of really small elements compactly placed under a giant lift hill so that the train is speeding through these elements at a wildly unsafe speed. If your coaster could run smoothly at 100 feet tall, make it 200 feet tall.
Again the problem I always have with this parks is the space management, I love to break large open spaces into smaller chunks, so it’s easier to fill with compact coasters. I don’t like when one coaster occupies an entire side of the map. Because of this, my park is taking a really long time, coupled with rebuilding coasters to either get a lower or higher intensity rate.
The thing with this park is you have to from the beginning build like there are already 4,500 guests in the park. Wide and long paths with many courtyards to hold the thousands of people that are going to be crowding the space at a time. I can’t believe in a roller coaster based challenge like this that the game wouldn’t give me every style of coaster? Like not even a wooden coaster this is ridiculous.
I beat the park in September of year 12, with only half the park completed. I expect this park to have about 7,000 people in it. It is now year 16, all my rides are finished, now I just have to theme the entire thing. I have 5,800 guests. Basically as long as your rating stays up you’re going to have people coming into the park regardless if you have new rides.
It is now Year 31 and I have finished Extreme Heights, it has taken me about 5 days in real time, I have 10,200 guests in my park, which is completely astronomical and absolutely unnecessary. My iPad is lagging but my park looks beautiful. I have finished with 82 staff, 62 shops and stalls, 21 restrooms, and 32 rides including 27 coasters.
