Mending Hearts and Bouncing Back
Plotted starter for @sillygum
Ikkaku trudged through the jungle of Amazon Lily, grumbling to herself under her breath. The engineer was in a foul mood, born of days full of stress, frustration, and tension. It had built up in her like a pressure cooker until she'd finally exploded, emotions high and volatile, her poor crew unfortunately bearing the brunt of it. Ikkaku already felt bad about that, but really, how could they still be drooling over the Kuja when it was clear they would rather every man on the ship meet the business end of their arrows? Instead of simping, they could have been helping their overworked engineer fix all the damage Straw Hat had done!
Seriously, how could one rubber-bodied kid who'd spent the past few days unconscious and nearly dead do so much damage to her precious ship and medical equipment so soon after waking up? And then he'd had the gall to run off, not even apologizing or acknowledging the destruction of so many machines she'd tirelessly built that had helped keep him alive.
Yes, Ikkaku was angry, but then again, with all the tension and emotion that had built up inside her since Marineford, she supposed that she was doomed to snap sooner or later. Straw Hat's rampage and her crewmates' idiocy were just two large bundles of straw that had broken the proverbial camel's back. She was just glad that Law hadn't witnessed her outburst, and that the guys were smart enough not to follow her into the jungle so she could cool down. Not that being alone with her thoughts was exactly great for her either. She'd had too much of that, and it always led to contemplations of the Whitebeard Pirates and "what ifs" and "could have beens," which then led to regrets...
Before she could be pulled into such thoughts like she had so many times before, her attention was caught by a sound deeper in the jungle. Ikkaku's brow furrowed, confused and concerned. That couldn't be one of the Kuja, could it? Unlikely, and she could feel her anger spike again when she narrowed down the possible culprit.
Pushing aside the obscuring flora, her suspicions were confirmed when she found one of the causes of her troubles. The rubber menace himself. Just as her mouth opened to cuss him out for her machines, her eyes took in his bandages and the general state he was in, and her rage cooled despite herself.
"Fuck. You're a mess, aren't you, Straw Hat?"
