You tell me I don’t belong here. That this is a land of wolves now, and I am not a wolf. I think of running, taking your advice and moving to a small town. It makes me feel like a rabbit, hiding and seeking solace in its burrow. Concealing its fragile form from predators, from the wolves. From you.

That would make me a coward. I am better than that. No matter what you think of me, what you’ve done to me. I will not bow. I will not break. I will howl. And prove you wrong. 

One day you may look behind you and see a wolf where there was none before. You will wonder what happened to me, what has become of me, and I will answer with the truth. You did. I have become a predator in spite of you, and you will not treat me like prey again.

Nothing will make sense to your American ears, and you will doubt everything that we do, but in the end you will understand.

You are not a wolf, and this is a land of wolves now.
