Love the Bu Fan/Si De mystery thing, I demand more.
Gotcha! First part here:
The ring Qiang Da proposes to Qiang Wei with is the one his dad was planning to give his mom (that we see near the end of the show)
Bu Fan has a lot of dramatic ideas for how Qiang Da should propose, including: bribing the schoolchildren into performing a flash mob, getting an airplane to write "你会娶我吗?" in the sky, and publicly performing a love song for her. Qiang Da shoots all these ideas down, of course.
Qiang Da ends up proposing during the antique auction that Qiang Wei is helping with for the school charity week: he shows her the ring and asks her to guess its value. When she makes her estimate, he tells her she’s wrong--the ring has infinite value, not because of what it is made of, but because of what it represents. It represents new beginnings, finding joy in sorrow, a promise to support and encourage one another, working through difficult times with someone who makes them worth it, and most of all, that the person who wears it is his “one”. He gets down on one knee, and of course she says yes!
A moment occurs where Si De catches Bu Fan having a pity party (i.e shooting baskets in the gym) after Qiang Da solves an important clue before him. She asks him what’s wrong and he confides in her that he feels like he’s lost his touch as an investigator. She asks if she can play, and he teaches her how to shoot a basket (YES, this means the classic “let me stand behind you and adjust your stance with my arms around you” trope.) She makes a basket on her first try.
Re the mystery, the red herring culprit is the student’s aunt that Ah Fei is in love with--he feels upset and betrayed as the clues begin to point to her. Bu Fan is convinced he’s letting his feelings overshadow the obvious whereas Ah Fei thinks Bu Fan is ignoring the possibility that it could be someone else because he just wants the case solved before Qiang Da can figure it out first. They have a massive bro fight over it. Luckily, the aunt didn’t actually steal the money box and the boys make up so it’s all ok!
