Photography Workshop
In order to present what I had worked in class and on my own, I usually have to make use of photography, taking pictures of my work. Recently, I realized that my lighting is an aspect, that could be improved upon, which is why I went to this workshop.
We used classic cameras, and were introduced into the workings of the aperture and the shutter frame, specific functions of a camera that are nowadays not made use of much anymore, due to the rise of mobile phone cameras. We were supposed to make use of them in different styles of portrait pictures we would take of each other. The pictures I took below are of my work partner Aine Barry.
At first, I did just a normal portrait, trying to get the most out of the picture using the functions I know got to learn of. It was much cleaner and focused in terms of lighting than my phone pictures, though I may also have to credit that to the studio environment.
Then, it got more experimental, as I tried to put a focus on the colour contrasts and the relationship between the person and their surroundings, again making use of the aperture and shutter frame. These pictures are more unconventional, but carry more personality with them.
Overall, knowing the specific workings of a camera and how to manipulate may hopefully help me take better pictures of my art pieces. Furthermore, I will try to apply what I learned during the experimental stage, and try a few more unconventional methods of picture taking in order to reflect the core of my art.
