!!SET AFTER THE EVENTS OF S6!!
2:04 am…07? 3:04?
Your heavy eyes had a hard time reading the luminescent numbers on the night stand. That damn alarm clock, you didn’t want to get it but he insisted on it, saying that he’s never seen an alarm clock that isn’t red. You were surprised the batteries haven’t died yet.
You picked yourself up from the bed, feeling the cold air immediately kiss your skin. Your body was still weak, refusing to wake up from slumber. You would go back to sleep under any circumstance. But this wasn’t any circumstance.
“2:06 am…later then last time,” You murmured, turning yourself to face the right side of the bed.
The people who say it gets better after each time have clearly never seen a lover cry.
This was an excruciatingly painful nightly recurrence ever since getting back from Starlight. Sharp breaths and rapid turning would shake you awake. Nightmares weren’t a new thing, both of you were victims of them. After getting back from the lodge, graphic dreams of the events, actions you’ve done and completely fabricated non existent scenes played out when you would sleep. The same happened with Garroth.
Even in Starlight, sometimes you would wake up to him on his phone in the middle of the night. You were both healing at your own paces, but you were together through it all.
But one thing was different from before, movement. Nightmares wouldn’t affect him before in a physical manner. Thrashing around and tightly gripping the sheets? This didn’t used to happened before.
It was harder to snap him out of it now. Shaking him awake didn’t work anymore and you have to raise your voice to wake him up. You hated waking him up even more scared. You hated seeing him toss and turn trapped inside his own head.
You hated seeing him cry.
You hated seeing him in pain.
Watching him jump up, fully awake and alert. Following his eyes as they franticly surveyed the room. Looking for something, anything. You didn’t know what for.
Gently, you placed your hand onto his shoulder, trying your best to avoid startling him. You failed as he jumped, whipping his head towards you. Though, his wide eyes softened as he looked at you. His alert ears lowering too shortly after.
But the rest of his body was cold, unmoving. His muscles were failing him in the complete other way yours were a few minutes ago. He was frozen in shock…maybe in fear? It could be both, you weren’t sure.
This was behavior you were still trying to understand and learn about to the best you could. You were doing the best you can. You always did when it came to the both of you.
You began to speak to him,
“Hey, you’re safe, we’re safe.” You cupped his cheek and slowly turned his upper body towards you.
“No one is coming to harm anyone, we aren’t in any danger, breath with me sunshine.”
You removed your hand from his shoulder to place it on your chest. You breathe in and out slowly. He tried to copy your pace but pools of tears started to gather up and his shaky breaths turned to sharp gasps.
You shoved down your anxiety as tears threatened to fall and your upper cheeks started to numb. You quickly warped an arm around his neck, pulling him into you. You felt the weight of his head on your chest and his arms wrap around your body, hugging you tightly, protectively, as if, at any given moment, you could evaporate. You reciprocated, pulling him closer, practically suffocating the both of you. You could feel a patch of your shirt dampen and stick to your skin, his tears wetting the fabric and his breath warming you up. It was an uncomfortable feeling but nothing else but the man in front of you mattered in the moment.
You both sat there for what seemed like hours, in a silent comfort, holding each other. Eventually you both ended up lying down, Garroth’s head resting on the side of your abdomen while you drew patterns on his back. His breathing returning to a regular pace by now. The sun had another hour before it would rise. The only sound that you both could hear was the dawn chorus from the birds. You were staring out the window looking at the descending moon as you felt a finger graze against your skin where your shirt had ridden up. You silently relished in the feeling of the lightly drawn circles fluttering against your stomach.
You looked away from the window as you questioned against opening your mouth to speak. Biting your lip, your cursed yourself. It was always at this point in time where doubt started to slip in. Where you’d constantly question if what you were doing was right. Was silence good? Should you be hugging? Should you ask?
You lightly shook your head,
‘I’m just gonna ask if he wants too,’
You swallowed down your spit. You could feel that you had dry mouth after you had exhaled.
“Do,” you sighed shakily, “do you want to talk about it?”
You felt his finger stop in mid motion and watch as his upper lip lowered down over his bottom lip.
“We don’t have too, it’s only if you want to- “you stammered as your anxiety was kicking in.
“It was about you.”
“Oh…”
You shifted looking down at him, an indescribable expression on his face. A mix of immense thought yet an undoubtedly numb expression.
“Zane, KC… I was there again, in my mind…watching, in my body but with no control of it. My body was chasing after Zane to the resort, KC…I yelled at myself to stop, I screamed at myself to stop!”
“Gar- “
“You screamed my name; to snap out of it, you begged me sobbing while covering Kawaii-Chans wound with your jacket. You begged me bloody handed to snap out of it, pulling me back by my shirt.”
He turned towards you, tears streaming down his cheeks, his eye bags much more prominent in the early morning light. He gripped the base of your shirt tightly, looking directly into your eyes. His eyes…they were enough to make you crack. Slow tears made their home on the apples of your cheeks. While your hand took a hold of his, your thumb gently caressed his palm.
“Irene, I screamed for you to back away, you looked so scared but determined to break me out. Zane screamed for you to back away but you wouldn’t budge. Even when I swigged at you, you…you look at me so hopefully…”
He looked away, his ears down. The grip he had while holding your hand never faltering once. “You could’ve died, I could’ve killed you. I could’ve killed Zane, Kawaii-Chan…”
“Yet were here, we all survived, we made it out alive, we made it out together,” You turned his face back towards you. “Look at me, this scar.” You slid your finger across a 17 cm (6.69 inch) scar that spanned from your shoulder to your chest.
“This, this isn’t your fault, Zane’s aren’t your fault, Kawaii-Chans aren’t your fault. You were under the effect of mind control, unable to do anything but watch as your body moves without your consent. You fought so hard to break out of it. Garroth, no one blames you or Katelyn for what happened. The same way no one blames Lucy, Zane, Aph or me for our actions at the lodge.”
“But only if I were-!” He started contradicting, a mix of shame and guilt in his voice.
“Do you blame me for almost chocking you to death at the lodge in the middle of a frozen forest?” You asked him honestly, cutting him off and letting go of his hand to grab his face.
“Do you blame me Garroth?” You asked dryly.
“Of course I don’t you were-“
“Then stop beating yourself over something you had absolutely no control over!” You yelled while looking at him directly in the eyes. “If you are able to find room in your heart to accept my and the others actions,” You paused holding in your tears once more and breathing in, “can’t you find room to accept your own? That it isn’t your fault and never will be? That your body was used to commit someone else’s bidding? That if you’d never accept theses type of actions, that you would never do them? It isn’t your fault Garroth.” You paused again, taking in a deep breath. You let go of his teary face and grabbed both of his hands, holding them with your own.
“Sunshine, I can’t bare to see you cry. I wish I could remove all this pain, if I could, I would but I am no god. I want to make you smile every single day. All I want to do and can do is be here with you.” Your hands were trembling as your eyes watered; Irene only knows why you were so emotional. You looked up from your held hands to Garroth red face. You smiled.
“I love you so much Garroth, I always will.”
“I love you too,”
He said smiling, looking away. He started giggling all flustered, Irene knows how much you loved that giggle.
“What are you laughing about now? After everything I said?” you asked him pulling out a cheeky smile.
“It sounded like a proposal…” He answered embarrassed.
You blushed surprised but joined in with the embarrassed laughter.
“Could be, only if you are willing to,”
“Of course I’m willing to, you know I’d love to marry you,”
“Great because I’d love to marry you too”
That laugh that you adored oh so much rang through out your shared bedroom before you both shared a loving kiss. These are the moments you wished you could capture and keep forever. Though, you were sure you’d never forget this.
This is what you’ll be dreaming about forever.

“I want to write down when you proposed!” He said getting out of the bed.
You laughed turning to the clock on your nightstand as he went to grab a pen and a notepad from the desk. You paused as you stared at the clock, there was no longer any neon blue numbers staring back at you.
“So, what time is it?”
“I’m not sure, the clock is out of power.”
“What? Really? Awh man…”
You smirked at him.
“What...?”
“I guess it was just a moment where time stood still”
