(ShayminCafe) Cherry and Shaythulu approached their hosts and bowed before them courteously. "Thank you for inviting us to this event. It has been lovely so far," Cherry said. "Shaythulu and I were curious. How did you two come to meet each other and host this event together? Are you lifelong friends or did you meet only recently?"
" Chunli told me about her life and such, she then wanted to go back to her island and set up the festival. Of course as her husband, I'll help her. "
" You're so romantic..! "

Notebook Study of Rudolf Koch's lovely vital letters. Gouache and turkey quill. First attempt at these, plenty more to develop! Koch (1876-1934) was a great master and teacher renowned for his humble and generous presence. His letters have no trace of pretentiousness, and while they are firmly rooted in the tradition of the great medieval and Renaissance masters, they are equally as well rich in a modern graphical impact, with the negative space as powerful, if not more so, as the mark. His long time colleague Fritz Kredel cut the woodblocks from which Das ABC Büchlein (the Little ABC Book) was originally printed. This edition is from David Godine, 1979. (Koch is perhaps best known today for the design of his typeface Neuland which has inspired thousands of calligraphic imitations the majority of which ignore the most important character of the letters, that they were designed by cutting away the negative spaces around the forms) #rudolfkoch #bertholdwolpe #fritzkredel #calligraphy #lettering #handlettering #italic #handwriting #Shodo #shufa #書法 #書道 #emptiness_is_a_design_pattern #calligraphymasters #design (at Washburn, Wisconsin) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_YkN3bDJS-/?igshid=1v7qn7i5xpoty

成語:豎橫不是人
I can’t really find a whole lot of evidence for this saying, but a prof shared it and I think it’s kinda cute so here we go
豎 (竖) shù : “vertical,” specifically what you call a vertical stroke in calligraphy
橫 héng : “horizontal,” again, used for calligraphy. (I can distinctly recall this in the voice of the calligraphy teacher in Harbin and that’s why I couldn’t find the character at first bc I thought it was “hang”)
不是人 bú shì rén: “is not a person.” so here’s the pun—to write the character 人 it’s two tilted strokes, eg literally not vertical & horizontal, but it’s also kind of a way of saying “it’s not black or white,” people are more complicated.
