"auld lang syne" ((late but eyyy))
send “auld lang syne” for my characters reaction to waking up from a happy dream about your muse —- only to remember that your muse is already dead.
{{ You carry her in your arms just as you did once at the pool, smiling as brilliantly as the sun that shines overhead as you race down the sandy shoreline towards the water. This time, however, you don’t let go. You wade farther into the pristine ocean until her feet practically brush the surface, grinning from ear to ear.
"K-Kiki!" she exclaims, although her next words are drowned by the sound of the waves crashing against the beach.
You laugh brightly as you spin her in a circle, setting her down only when you were certain she was already thoroughly soaked through by the breakers’ spray.
"That… not very nice…" But she’s smiling, and you’re smiling, and for a moment you could have sworn time stood still.
You burst into laughter again, and once you do, you can’t seem to stop.
And then you w a k e u p—The room is empty. You hadn’t realized you had fallen asleep in her room. You must have been more exhausted than you thought. Then again, after a sleepless week, it was only to be expected.
Your hand is wound in Eridan’s scarf— her scarf— and you stand up slowly, working out the kink in your neck with one hand as the other carefully refolds the cloth and puts it back in its place.
Another investigation. Another death. And she… she was gone. Forever.
You don’t have any more tears left to shed.
The happy dream vanished, a flimsy soap bubble illusion that popped the moment you awoke.
There was nothing left to smile about.
You leave the room, feeling hollow and tired. She was gone… and she was never coming back. }}
