Why would you? Every conversation you had with them just reminded you that they were killed or killed someone. 

Besides, you didn't really have anyone to talk to. You deemed Ash, Kankri, Kurloz, and Dirk all 'scary', even though Ash was one of the people you looked up to, the other being Porrim. 

Gosh, you did want to talk to Porrim more. She was nice and didn't care what anyone said. Kankri was deemed scary because, well, he's...You can't really explain it. You didn't see Rufioh and Eridan often, and you guess that's for the better. 

Then there were the other kids. You didn't know their names, and you guess that's okay. After small moments of thinking, you stand up and go to  the one person you didn't deem scary.

Gabe.

Gabe was the only other victim besides Kanaya and Eridan. You hadn't really talked to him when he was alive, and you wanted to make up for that lost time. So, you wander around aimlessly, calling his name.

It would have been better to go to a hell than to face him.

At least that way you would feel you were getting what you deserved, and he wouldn’t have to talk to the one who slit his throat.

"I kn9w," you whisper hoarsely, "I kn9w, Ga6riel, and— I am s9 fucking s9rry— 6ut ap9l9gies can’t change anything, can they…?"

Gentle breezes blow through the island palm. The sunlight shimmers on the crystalline water and the world is quiet… it is a calm, pristine day…

—A splash and a hoot resound, and you are tugged into the familiar scene.

"Come on, Kanny!" he yells, beaming, trying to coax you into the pool. "We're going to have a little fun!"

You shake your head, smiling despite yourself. His enthusiasm was infectious. You sit on the cool tiles and dip your bare feet in, watching him laugh and continue to hound you. It’s fun, he insists. It’s fun.

It’s been a while since you had any fun.

You let out a startled cry as he pulls you in, clothes and all, and you break the surface sputtering. Oh, he’d pay for that. Grinning, you wade purposefully towards him, dunking him under the water before whale-flopping away. You were already at a disadvantage; your clothes dragged you down with each step you took and it was difficult to swim properly. But you were persistent. You planned to win this war you waged.

Letting out a small, quiet laugh, you throw yourself back into the water fight.

And then you w a k e  u p—

For a moment, you forget.

For another moment, you pretend you don’t remember.

Coffee? Caffeine was hardly what you wanted right now, and besides, hadn’t Gabriel promised to try to cut down on his intake? Either way, you  certainly didn’t need a stimulant in light of recent events, and you didn’t care much for its taste, in any case.

"…Why n9t?"

You take the Styrofoam cup, letting the warmth diffuse into your cold hands.
