Shooting Assignment 3: Light and Color as Subject
Light functions in photographs as a psychological metaphor and an aesthetic quality. The light of creation, the light of goodness, the light of reason are all metaphorical, visual associations of light with language and meaning. In the photograph, the acute description of light lends it added power as a language element. The subltlies of light enrich the meaning of any photograph. After all, the word photography means ”writing with light.” Light is never a neutral element in a photograph.
