Satoko runs as fast as she can down the clinic stairs, never once stopping to take a rest. Her feet hurt. Her muscles are sore. It feels like she hasnât breathed at all since that moment. After all, sheâd ran all the way here.
( satoko-chan... your brother... )
Irieâs words echo in her head, over and over. She shouldnât know where the basement is, shouldnât know how to get in, but she swiped the card off Irie, and here she is - forcing her way down there anyway. She runs... and runs... her heart pounding in her chest... and finally opens the door. And there on the bed is Satoshi. Awake.
This... in a hundred years, this has never happened. Satoko watched Rikaâs fragments for a hundred years, and Satoshi never once woke up. Sheâd grieved for him. Mourned him. And finally... after many, many years... slowly came to terms with the fact that sheâd never see him again.
But it still hurt. It hurt so much. The moment she realized that Satoshi was never waking up, it was like someone had dug a hole out of her heart. Sheâd fallen into a despair so deep that she thought sheâd never get out.
That was a long, long time ago, now.
How long has it been since sheâs seen him? What is she supposed to do? This... this canât be real. It canât be.
As Satoshi notices her... Satoko simply stands there, stunned. The silence in the room is suffocating, but that doesnât matter. Nothing else matters but this.
