Meet Yusuf Bilesanmi, a Nigerian engineer who recently won the One to Watch Award at the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation for his invention, "ShiVent." This low-cost, non-electric ventilator is designed to be highly efficient in its use of oxygen.

Yusuf, now 37, grew up in a modest background and initially pursued a degree in Law at Lagos State University before shifting his focus to science and engineering.

ShiVent is a non-invasive ventilator aimed at helping patients with respiratory difficulties. According to Yusuf, "ShiVent doesn’t require electricity, is easy to install, non-invasive, and oxygen-efficient. We believe it can save lives where more expensive or oxygen-intensive technologies aren’t available."
