there's only a little bit of snow this morning, as break strays from the garden of the rainsworths and decides to go on a little walk. the cool air isn't necessarily good for his bones, but in many ways, the pain makes him feel more alive— the chill of winter is creeping onto the island and into his old body, and everything feels more real when he's outside these days. the crunch of a light layer of snow underneath his boots is delightful enough for his steps to skip as he goes without much of a direction to go towards.
at some point, he kneels, simply gazing at the ground for a long moment. when he's made up his mind his hands reach out, threading through grass and snow alike, forming a ball in his palms. it hurts against his bare skin, yet he giggles happily. keeping the snowball in his hold like that for a minute longer, he eventually looks up, trying to ascertain a victim.
he has to stand to be able to throw properly. summoning mad hatter's presence in his mind, he looks for somebody who isn't facing him. break squints his eyes as if he could actually see, pulls back his arm, aims properly— and with a thwap, the snowball hits its goal, smashing against the back of his victim's head. surely slipping underneath their collar and into the back of their shirt.
hearing them turn to him more than anything, break straightens and points at the doll on his shoulder. ' it was her. '
