And I thought I was excited with my last Ken purchase, but this one...wow! I can't stop looking at her! (I included the photo the seller had on the ebay listing so you can see how she looks in-box (I love the box!)).
This is Spectra from the Spectra and the Shimmerons line by Mattel which were released in 1986. The concept of the line is that the five friends are from a planet called Shimmeron and they have come to Earth to see how teenagers have fun and to show how they have fun on Shimmeron (basically the Novi Stars of the 80's haha). Lacy...spacy...out-of-this-world! is their slogan. :P She is officially the oldest doll that I ever got to unbox (I have a doll from the 60's but she wasn't NIB when I got her). As I was getting her off the box, I took some of the tape off and asked my boyfriend in a dumb voice "Would you like to touch some tape from the 80's?" ~_~ He said no and looked at me like I was insane, lmao.
Anyways on to the doll. She is so ridiculously pretty in person, 1000 times better then the online photos. She's everything I hoped and more. Her metallic body has a gorgeous sheen and even though her lace outfit would seem ridiculous on a doll nowadays, I just love it. It's actually really high quality lace, not what I was expecting. Her hair is really soft and better quality than any MGA product on shelves right now which is crazy. And the tinsel in it seems better quality than the tinsel in Monster High hair. Her face-up is so pretty, it's softness is a really nice contrast to the brightness of her body and hair. She has nine points of articulation (neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees), which make it (if you mess with her a bit) so she can stand on her own. I think it's interesting/cool that Mattel decided to recycle the name Spectra.
Also included with the doll was a pik-like comb with a shooting star on it, a character card with bio on back (Spectra's favorite food is man-in-the-moon burgers! haha), and a booklet that shows all the other Spectra products. I cannot wait until I have them all, they are definitely one of my top favorite doll lines, it just sucks that all the rest cost so much on ebay, even her dog. >.< Well, hopefully someday.
EDIT: I forgot to include the only downside to the doll (for me). Well, not so much the doll itself. Since she was stuck in the same position for 27 years, her dress kind of molded into the shape it was in the box, so it kind of flies up and shows her panties (which is not very lady-like). So I have her holding it down with her arm. Hopefully this will fix it over time.
