6 June 2016. Jarring photograph by #GoharDashti part of her "Today's Life and War" series. We met the best security guard ever who kept pointing out things we missed in the works. π€π€π€πΌ #SheWhoTellsAStory #WomenintheArts #Art #contemporaryart (at National Museum of Women in the Arts)

#Repost @womeninthearts with @repostapp γ»γ»γ» In her words: #SheWhoTellsAStory artist #RulaHalawani describes her series "Negative Incursions," which she photographed after the Israeli invasion of the West Bank. πShe says: "In negatives, the pictures were able to express my own feelings merged with the feelings of my people, to explain what had happened to us and to our Palestine. As negatives, they express the negation of our reality that the invasion represented. Their darkness allows the spectator to feel the darkness of the days I had witnessed during this incursion. The photographs represent some of the stories I had witnessed in Ramallah. Others tell stories I had heard and learned in Jenin from the people that I met there. But only by manipulating them do I think it was possible to tell the larger story of one period of the Palestinian experience."
I had such an amazing visit to the @womeninthearts museum this weekend! Their new exhibition #shewhotellsastory displays art created by women in the Middle East and is an amazing critique of orientalism. In this piece, everything but the woman photographed is made from bullet casings. (at National Museum Of Womens Art)
#Repost @52museums with @repostapp γ»γ»γ» #SheWhoTellsAStory :The next major exhibition at #NMWA, "She Who Tells a Story: Women Photographers from Iran & the Arab World" (April 8βJuly 31) will actively challenge stereotypical ideas that Arab and Iranian women are oppressed or powerless, illuminating the fact that women are creating some of the most significant photographic work in the region today. The name of the exhibition is taken from the Arabic word "rawiya," which is also the name of a collective of women photographers based in the Middle East founded in 2009. The museum will be holding a variety of programs connected to the exhibit, including film screenings, lectures, teachers workshops, and a reading club. Organized by the @mfaboston.
