“ you need to calm down before you make yourself sick again. ”

Can’t she see that he’s TRYING? He wants so badly to CALM DOWN, to BE NORMAL, to not do this in front of Donna. Every breath is so hard. It feels like his throat is closing. His heart feels like it’s going to EXPLODE. He’s too nauseous to open his mouth and too WEAK to standup. Instead he stays crouched down, hunched over bracing himself against the brick facade of the high school with one trembling arm and trying not to pass out in a puddle of his own barf. It’s so EMBARRASSING. Demoralizing.
He wonders if there is anyway to PLAY IT OFF like he’s just sick, act like he isn’t having a TOTAL BREAKDOWN over nothing at all. He wants to be the Jeff she knows, the Jeff he’s tried to be in front of her. He wants to go home and take his meds and crawl into his soft bed in his dark room and SLEEP THIS OFF. Tomorrow he’ll be Jeff again, surely. Not the guy who sneaks behind the school to tremble and cry so hard he throws up. Maybe she’ll mention what she witnessed but he’ll have an easier time PLAYING IT OFF when he can talk again, when he’s back to some kind of NORMAL.
Jeff raises the hand he’s NOT using to hold himself up and tries to gesture for her to leave.
