Change you focus from calling it a "class roster" or "attendance roll;" instead, use it as a "ministry list." The former puts focus on attendance for which class members are solely responsible. The latter puts responsibility on everyone with you, as teacher, being primary as giving ministry to each other. Subtle shift with a huge difference.
