desperately safe | cal and jiaying
Cal can’t sleep. His ears are still ringing from...earlier and his hands ache and sting from where he’s scrubbed them raw. He can’t sleep. He’s brimming with excess energy, he wants to run, wants to scream, he wants to break something, he wants to smash his head against a wall until it’s just a bloody mess.
The outside air is cool and tantalizing but he can’t go out. He can’t leave. He can never stray far from Jiaying. He can’t leave her. There are men in the dark and they have knives and cruel hearts.
He’s checked the locks about five times by now. Now, he’s just pacing. Trying very hard to keep his footfalls soft so he doesn’t wake Jiaying. He knows he shouldn’t pace, he knows she hates it but needs to do something or he’s going to explode.
Every now and then he’ll stop, go still because he’s certain he’s heard something outside. It’s nothing. It’s nothing. No one is there. No one knows they’re here. He’s just being crazy. Stop being crazy. Be better. Be better. Be better.
