Review: Charlie The Movie - Cannes Film Festival 2015
What would happen if you stopped talking to save your sanity? Ask Charlie...#Cannes2015
Most television viewers would remember Shawn Ryan from the semi-finals of “America’s Got Talent” , “The Mentalist” or “Women’s Murder Club”. My first encounter with the cinematic enigma was on the cabaret scene in Los Angeles, where he quirky comic wit would shred a room with mounds of laughter.
However, after screening “Charlie The Movie”, I can wholeheartedly tell you that Shawn Ryan is for…

Thursdays this fall
With the CBS upfront presentation still pending there looks to be a battle shaping up Thursday night at 8. Fox has X-Factor with its brand new female judges, neither of whom will be bringing me to the table. NBC is going with 30 Rock and Up All Night. This is probably the best time slot partner for the Christina Applegate comedy yet. They are tied together thematically via TV production and both feature strong "fixer" women.
Via Bill Prady's Twitter feed it seems a no-brainer Big Bang Theory is going back to the same time slot, the only question mark would be which show is going to share the hour. So what's ABC's entry into this melee? Shawn Ryan's Last Resort, a show about the crew of a nuclear sub on the run after refusing an order to fire.
This is quite a brilliant move I think. Part of my thinking hinges on my father, who is attracted to shows where things blow up or move quickly or both. His wheelhouse includes 24, Without a Trace, and back in the day stuff like Knight Rider and Airwolf. I think he and a lot of men and women like him are going to love this show. Ryan, who previously brought us The Shield and The Chicago Code, creates ballsy, in-your-face, no bullsh*t characters.
His cast is going to drag me into a live vs DVR battle for sure as the genius Andre Braugher is the captain of the sub. He had me right there. I was vowing to watch the minute it was announced. But powerhouse Dichen Lachman and Robert Patrick are part of the crew and I am sure I am not the only one looking forward to seeing what Glee's Max Adler can do with different material.
