The ruby and gold-eyed woman scoffed with an arrogant smirk. “Oh? So you are approaching me?” The eldritch curse might have turned her into a slow moving monster but she was still a dangerous foe.
“It might not be wise. But I can’t kick your ass unless I come closer.”
“Oh really..” Xellos frowned. Was Lina genuinely going to try to kill the Dark Lord? His mistress gave a low growl at the human’s attitude, but made no move.
The corrupted Shabranigdo-in-human-form laughed. “Then get as close as you need to!”
Lina continued walking forward, chanting, surrounded by the spell circle flaring around her. “Fragment of the Lord of Nightmares, release thy heavenly retribution. Oh blade of cold, black nothingness--become my power, become my body. Together, let us walk the path of destruction and smash even the souls of the Gods.”
Xellos was in motion before he had fully planned out an explanation that would satisfy Zelas, but he had spotted an opportunist mazoku lurking behind the sorceress readying to kill her once the aura protecting her faded. Heedless of what it would look like to Lina, indeed, he was charging in her direction with his power flaring in attack, he moved to punish the coward behind her...
“RAGNA BLADE!!” Lina unleashed the spell and slashed--the arc passing milometers away from Xellos’ path but cleaving into the fallen priestess....
Later, after the battle, Xellos asked her if she had trusted him and missed hitting him with that spell on purpose or if she had intended to try to kill him.
Lina, exhausted and victorious, gave a chuckle into a familiar though tired winking grin with a V-for-victory. “That... is a secret.”
Xellos smiled.
Slayers Secret Santa 2019 gift for @shathereal. Details and prompt under the cut!
The prompt was “Lina tries to beat Xellos at his own game”. When trying to think about what to do I remembered how despite it’s power Ragna Blade is a very close-range spell and she needs to be exceedingly close for it to hit so she needs to approach very close to the dangerous being she’s trying to End with a capital E. Since a glance over Shathereal’s blog showed me many memes I decided to go for it! The first draft had me trying to draw them in JJBA style, which failed. So instead I used references and found/made poses that I liked. (Special thanks to @cutepiku for coming in clutch with Xellos’ amalgamation.)
The invisible storyline is roughly this: A priestess was born unable to move her legs. Similar to Rezo she eventually went mad, trying anything to cure herself. She had replaced her legs with human-form legs of a fallen gold dragon and trapping it’s soul in a gem in her stomach to keep the legs alive but it still didn’t work. With the gods having failed her she turned to the mazoku, agreeing to become a spy and agent for them in exchange for being able to walk. The remnant of the gold dragon interfered with Shabranigdo’s resurrection by him burning his soul trying to curse her and she became a monstrous slug-like centaur eldritch abomination intent on devouring all mazoku first. Understandably this bothered the mazoku so they weren’t inclined to assist her, though if directly ordered they had to obey. She hadn’t ordered Xellos not to defend Lina though so he did. And then Lina managed to beat him at his own game!
I know it’s a complicated obscure way to go about it and I’m sorry. Art is hard for me and drawing more of the story would have ruined the memey-ness. I’m proud of the Ragna Blade, though, and how it breaks the comic panels because can’t nobody contain L-sama.
I know without the backstory it looks like she’s attacking Xellos, and while that wasn’t the intention I think it’s still a cohesive comic.
