Me: The new season of Aggretsuko was really good
My internal monologue, at all hours: The season was about growing up and changing your expectations, and that things aren't always gonna work out and that's okay. Maybe for me that means I should just accept that my role is to be the guy who people can look at and feel better about themselves. The guy who people think when things aren't going as they planned. "Look at him, if he can always bounce back, I can too." Maybe it's what I'm supposed to do, just accept that my place in the universe is to be a tool for other people to boost their own morales with. It's all about expectation adjustment, right?
Me: Funny how relatable it can be even though the only things I have in common with Retsuko is that I'm a young adult and single.
My internal monologue, continuing: It kind of makes sense, right? And maybe it even is what I want, I just don't know it yet. I can't see it yet. Maybe it's my moment of growth to see that the world in my immediate vicinity, including myself, will be a better place as soon as I accept my role as a cautionary tale. The one to sit back and laugh with, the one who is there to show that things don't have to be as bad as they look like.
Me: So good, can't wait for season 3!
My internal monologue, in my every waking moment: And it's true, right? In the end, you're in charge of your own happiness. You can't expect anyone to just hand it to you. You can't expect anyone else to bend over backwards for you. You aren't entitled to anyone's sacrifices. In fact, if you're not keeping that at the top of your mind when interacting with other people, it shows that you have learned literally nothing.

My internal monologue, revving up some death metal karaoke: YOU MISERABLE, WRETCHED BEAST! YOU CAN'T SEE THROUGH YOUR OWN GREED, YOUR ENVY! COMPARING YOUR LIFE TO OTHERS', LIKE THEY SOMEHOW OWE AN EXPLANATION, LIKE THEIR HAPPINESS IS SOMETHING YOU, TOO, DESERVE TO ACHIEVE! SOLITUDE IS YOUR SANCTUARY! SOLITUDE IS YOUR SANCTUARY!!!
Me: Anyway, I wonder what the new season of Bojack will have in store for us.
