Amidst the Fallout
Melior was quiet as ever.
Ever was relative, of course. It only accounted for the last six or so weeks since the Winter Solstice. There was snow as far as Geoffrey could see, affixed as if permanent to every roof and spire, to the top of the lamp posts and all the signs in the market square.Â
He didn’t usually traipse this far, but Amy had cried herself to sleep but an hour ago. She wouldn’t wake until morning, if the last few weeks were any indication.
Geoffrey’s breath clouded in the air as he sighed. Dovetail made a similar noise as she skirted the stone statues of a pair of children crossing the street. Geoffrey didn’t blame her, and carded a gentle hand through her unbound mane.Â
It was a disconcerting sight for man or beast.Â
