Why should Christians witness to others?  Is it really important to be a witness?  Why couldn’t God send angels instead?  We will answer these questions in today’s Bible study.

Let’s read together Ezekiel 3:11; Matthew 28:19; and Acts 1:8.

Jesus specifically commanded us to witness to others. While this is reason enough, let’s explore what it means to be a witness.

Let’s read together Acts 4:20.

What is a witness?  The legal definition of a witness is some who testified what he or she has seen or heard.  Jacob made a pillar of stones as a witness of the truce between him and Laban (Genesis 31:44-50).  The tribes of Reuben and Gad made an altar as a witness to Israel (Joshua 22:34).  The act of baptism is a witness to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3-5).  The Scriptures, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit testify Jesus is the Son of God (Mark 1:10-11; John 5:39).

As Christians, what is it exactly that we are to witness?

Let’s read together John 3:16; Acts 10:42-43; 20:24; Romans 3:23; 6:23; and 1 John 4:14.

We are to testify to people that we are all sinners sentenced to death.  However, we have good news to share!  God loves us and bestows grace upon us.  If we confess and repent of our sins, we can choose to follow Jesus as our Lord and Savior. We can have a renewed life with God.

Let’s read together Matthew 5:16; Romans 1:16; and 1 Peter 3:15-16.

If we truly are the light of the world, we will not be ashamed of the Gospel message.  We will be ready and willing to testify about Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior to others around us.

How do we witness to others?

Let’s read together Mark 5:19-20; Acts 22:15; and 1 John 1:1-4.

You do not have to be a theologian or pastor to share your faith with others.  You simply share what Jesus did for you.

Let’s read together Proverbs 11:30; Luke 5:10; and 1 Peter 1:12.

Friend, God is entrusting us with an important task the angels would be glad to do.  People like to share with others when they’ve seen a movie or eat at a good restaurant.  How much more so is the message of salvation through Jesus Christ?

“Come and see” is an invitation I can offer for others to see who Jesus really is, to suspend their judgments, preconceived notions, or negative experiences of the Church, and journey to the place of encounter with a Person who is not just waiting to be found, but is the One in pursuit. When I extend this simple invitation, the pressure is no longer on me to have all the answers. It’s God’s job, and His deepest desire, to show people that His Son is the Answer (...) “come and see” means an offer to faithfully accompany others as they walk the path toward Christ. It means rejoicing with them when they rejoice and weeping with them when they weep. In addition, I invite others to come and see my life, which is far from perfect, but by God’s grace reflects the reality of His love and mercy. Today, Jesus calls out to each of us, “Come and see! Draw closer to Me. See Me in prayer, in all the circumstances of your life, and in the people around you.” Have I invited anyone to come closer to the Lord? || Debra Herbeck @blessedisshe__
