He spotted her from the dark, as he was wont to do. A lone girl, stepping backwards from the fray, as the continuing mass of humanity became more and more than she could handle. And indeed, handling them she was, fending them off with a bizarre ability even he had never seen before.

But Kotomine had seen her before, and that was enough.

Just as the swarm was about to overwhelm her, a line of blades sprouted from the ground, forcing the masses to hesitate. That moment was all Kirei needed, dropping down behind the young woman and wrapping his arm around her waist.

   “Hold on, girl. We’re going up.”

This whispered warning was all he offered before launching himself into the air again, superhuman strength showing itself even as the air exploded around him, fire and other debris flashing through the air as several superhuman beings attempted to take him out of the air. Still, they could not match up to his speed, and before long, he had made it up the side of a building and safely over it, landing on the roof of a nearby complex before setting the sweating girl down lightly in front of him.

The sun had long ago fallen beneath the horizon and taken with it the light of day, but Sector oo1's activity does not end with the coming of night. While the general public sleeps, the city's vermin crawls out of the alleyways to claim the darkened city as their own, lurking in the deeper shadows where the light of flickering streetlamps doesn't touch.

It is tonight, with the moon at its highest point in the sky, that Shiki finds herself wandering the city streets, allowing her whims to take her wherever she wishes. The summer night is warm, and there is no jacket on her shoulders, no pockets to place her hands in, and so her arms hang at her sides as she allows her feet to take her wherever she pleases.

She passes still-lit signs and stray animals, ignores the jeers of a couple punks, and when she feels a rumble in the ground under her feet stops to watch the buildings of the sector shift around. The spectacle of it still hasn’t quite worn off, though she’s less impressed and more bothered; moving familiar locations around never helps a person’s comfort. With them still rumbling around their respective blocks, she looks away and continues her little stroll. Eventually her mind drifts as her feet keep moving. 

Perhaps the unfamiliar setting has caused her to lose a bit of her edge, because even unfocused as she was she should have noticed the extra sets of footsteps join her own before now.

The building that looms in front of them all shrouds the alley in murky shadow that is barely kept from being pitch-black by the moon and the city’s own lights; the perfect place to ambush someone. Maybe if she had been paying more attention--if she had cared enough to--she would have noticed the men that followed her to this dead end. Their appearances scream danger, but not moreso than the glint of the blades that two of them hold; five troublesome people in all.

She acknowledges their presence with a sigh of exasperation and an indifferent look thrown over her shoulder. A pain in the ass, that’s what this is. A chore. They might think they stand a fighting chance, but they hold themselves like street vermin and they stand against one trained to fight demons.

Really, she’d rather not.

As she raises her right hand in a gesture of dismissal, she turns her gaze back to the dead end.

there was once a girl who was deprived of the very essence of humanity, the aspect of emotions. To have never felt those feelings of butterflies which flickered about encased in their skeletal prison, to have never felt the feeling of elation when someone pressed a smile upon one’s guise. A cruel world perhaps, but this was one where she once called her reality. A doll of marble they called her, a girl incapable of seeing even the brightest colors of a kaleidoscope. The world she once saw was different. The ideal of a fantastical world filled with individuals frolicking and prancing about amid a field was nonsensical and far-fetched to her, unrealistic almost. 

all she saw was black and white. A monochrome world where nothing ever cried or simply uttered even a single syllable. Solemn maybe yet it was what was labelled as her haven.

except that this was all in the past, but the present is not much different. There was a time where she met two individuals which welcomed a new section of her heart which had been left untouched for what felt like eons. The very nature of friendship had been misunderstood on her part, and the key to unchaining the lock upon her heart was simply sitting right in front of her eyes. Though that very feeling submerged within all the emptiness which existed. The doll stood unaccompanied on a nearby field of greenery located close to the park of the city, a digit held out in the nothingness of the air with a zephyr prancing about. Within seconds, a delicate butterfly landed aloft her very finger and began to reside there for the time being. 

amber spheres examined the creature with curiosity and intent, taking in every ink and detail which were painted on the individual’s wings. Except a quick rustle in the near distance had been too much for the petite creature, pressuring it to take wing and be on its way. During the time of its flight, Dlanor had incidentally heard a phrase which her name had partook in, which entailed a quick analysis of her surroundings. 

Odd. Peculiar. Strange.

This wasn’t how the city looked like when he entered the store. The house were different, the roads had changed. Had he been displaced while inside the store?

Honestly, the more he experienced of the city the more tired of it he got. A lady in familiar clothing was walking alone on the sidewalk, seemingly minding her own. Did she just have plain fashion sense or was she religious?

Either way, it didn’t matter to him as he approached.

“ Hey you, woman. “

His expression was serious, no nonsense. He might even look hostile to the more jumpy sort of people.

“ Where are we? This is not the same place I was at when I entered the store. “ 

Coming to her room he knocked the door, hoping that she was there.

  “Hey... You there? I wanna talk with you, I won’t freak out this time I swear.”

The company of the younger was appreciated, she supposed, although never had she indicated it to be mandatory for her to follow along with her as she took a quick trip to get materials. How should she put it? It wasn’t that she was particularly embarrassed to show her her sewing talents, but she thought it to be a hassle for another to be dragged into, yet, another part of her mundane routines. Her smile shook a bit, brows knitted closely together as she tried to not sound displeased (which in truth she wasn’t at all).
