This is something I noticed too and I was flabbergasted because I just can’t believe that people aren’t able to differentiate between the two. It is often assumed that what you write is your opinion and that just doesn’t make any sense because if that was true then writers would only ever present one prospective/opinion and that’s just plain stupid
Exactly. How boring would it be if a writer just wrote about characters who always agreed on everything, all the time. You need contrasting views or it’s just characters confirming each other’s beliefs over and over. And at the same time, people are flawed. Characters are flawed. They can be wrong, and believe they’re right. To write from their POV, we have to work with that.
It’s not very realistic, in my opinion, to write a fic wherein Steve goes against every single thing he’s ever believed for the sake of me trying to avoid writing a “controversial” viewpoint. It’s one thing if Steve comes to that conclusion in the end (still a little doubtful), but to start out that way just strikes me as very, very unlikely.
But different strokes for different folks, I guess? I can only hope those readers find a writer they like and stick with them.
